The ministry has selected the actress to centre and sharpen their communications towards Indian women, especially for those women who live in semi-rural and rural India.
According to a source, in the research done by the government, men resist building and using toilets in remote and rural areas but on the other hand, women really want to use these. Women are unable to do so as men do not feel the need of toilets.
Women end up using open spaces like farms and fields which have many risks for them. Even open defecation include the spread of safety and disease for children and women. Women safety are been threatened as they go alone to the fields and other places as they are unable to use toilets.
According to the source, the government has felt that Anushka Sharma can resonate with women, and was chosen for the campaign as she has played inspiring female characters onscreen and has wide appeal with the young audiences.
