Apple MacBook prices silently hiked in India

Apple MacBook Pro

While people were busy admiring and reviewing the new Apple MacBook Pro which was launched last week at its ‘Hello Again’ event in San Francisco, the makers of the gadget decided to increase the cost of the much-awaited machine. Apple has increased the price of the MacBook by a hefty amount i.e., Rs.10, 000.

The 12-inch MacBook having Touch Bar and Touch ID functionality, is now selling for Rs. 112,900 which is Rs. 6,000 costlier than the price quoted earlier. Its faster processor variant with double the SSD of 512GB is now being sold at Rs 139,900 which is Rs 10,000 more than the previously announced price. The increase in the prices of the new gadgets is significant and comes without any announcement. In fact, the prices of the entire Mac line were revised in last October only.

Though the price of the Macbook has not changed on the US website, Apple India’s website is reflecting the new prices.

The MacBook consists of a Force Touch trackpad and edge-to-edge keyboard design. It is offered in two configurations-both feature a 12-inch LED-backlit display with IPS technology, running at a resolution of 2304×1440 pixels (16:10 aspect ratio), and pixel density of 226ppi. The base variant is powered by Intel’s Core m3 dual-core processor clocked at 1.1GHz (turbo boost up to 2.2GHz), paired with 8GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 515 and 256GB flash storage.

The Touch Bar in the new MacBook Pro definitely adds a lot of functionality but all the existing ports with USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 ports have been replaced. This has resulted in the need of an adaptor even to connect an iPhone to the MacBook.

Apple in April had launched a MacBook with Intel Skylake processor, faster RAM and PCIe-based flash storage. It had also introduced a rose gold colour variant to the MacBook line up. The company has recently discontinued the 11-inch MacBook Air and will also discontinue the 13-inch variant very soon.

Apple has recently also launched two iPhones—7 and 7 Plus which are getting highly popular. The demand for the two iPhones is day by day increasing and the stock is now facing shortage. iPhone 7 which is of 4.7-inch is available on most online platforms but iPhone 7 Plus, the bigger variant, is running out of stock at a great pace.
