National Book Trust, India (NBT), an autonomous organization which comes under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, is organizing the next edition of its annual New Delhi World Book Fair. Delhi World Book Fair 2017 will be held from January 7 to 15 at the centrally located Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
National Book Trust was established on August 1, 1957 by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the independent India, with the objective of promoting a culture of reading in the society. It organized the first New Delhi World Book Fair in 1972. Over the last four decades the New Delhi World Book Fair has earned itself a high reputation among international publishers. The fair which had been a biennial event till last few years, has now become a major annual event in the publishing world. It is the largest book event in the Afro-Asian Region.
NDWBF offers the book lovers an opportunity to meet their favourite authors and also to get to know about the publishing industry and the world of books under one roof. Publishers and booksellers from across the country and different parts of the world showcase their books at the book fair. About 1200 participants from across India and over 30 foreign exhibitors are expected to participate in the NDWBF 2017 who will display books in Hindi, English and other Indian and foreign languages for all age-groups, on a wide range of subjects.
Various literary and cultural programmes, seminars, panel discussions, book release functions, meet-the-author programmes, interactive activities for children and youth, etc. are held during the NDWBF. The cultural programmes showcase the folk and classical heritage of India.
This time the theme of the fair will be “Books On and By Women”. The nine-day event will host many dignitaries as guests and speakers.
Every year, the main attractions of the fair are children’s and foreign pavilion. This time also maximum crowd is expected to visit these two pavilions. Apart from this, there will be live FM radio corner, author’s corner and much more which will also serve the entertainment purpose of the visitors. There will be B2B sessions as well.
