Indian captain Virat Kohli today indicated that all-rounder Hardik Pandya could get a chance to make his debut in the first cricket Test against Sri Lanka starting tomorrow.
When India had landed in Galle with five bowlers in 2015, it kept a batsman in the last eleven. The Kohli-led team had to face defeat at that time.
Pandya’s presence gives Kohli the desired balance in the team. This all-rounder can bowl with a speed of around 140 kmph and is also capable of batting at lower order.
Kohli said, “The last time we think we might have probably lowered a batsman and the fifth bowler did not do much in the match. We have these options again but at the same time, there is also a good balance in our team. We have a hearty Pandya player who is a wicket-grabbing bowler. Whatever the match, whatever the pitch is, it has the ability to take wickets. The possibility of playing is quite good. “Kohli said that how Stuart Binny’s contributions became important in the next two Tests India won.
He said, “In the next two Tests on the 2015 tour, we played with all-rounder (Binny) and it created the whole difference. The extra batsman gave us strength. We have learned a lesson from him and instead of feeling things, we will apply these things directly to the chain this time. You need your best strike bowlers to get 20 wickets.
