I have gone through the pain of one-sided love: Karan Johar

Well-known Filmmaker Karan Johar is famous for making romantic dramas like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Student of the Year, etc. His upcoming film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is another romantic film featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in pivotal roles. Karan says that he makes romantic movies as he himself is a die-heart romantic person and the emotion of love is closest to his heart.

The 44-year-old director spoke about love and his upcoming film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil while addressing a session at the 18th Jio MAMI Mumbai International Film Festival.

He talked about his film and said that it is a movie that displays the emotion of one-sided love. He added that he can very well connect to the story of the film as he understands the emotion of love very well.

Because of the connection, he feels with love and heartbreak, Karan managed to write the script of the film in just 9 days. “I was in New York and while walking around the streets, I was thinking about the pain a person goes through when one-sided love happens. I have gone through that pain. The story of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil talks about this side of a love story,” he said.

Karan said that he himself is a very romantic person in his personal space. “I am extremely romantic in my personal space and I carry the baggage of love strongly in my cinema. If you fall in love twice then it’s enough and the pain that it gives you and holds your breath is what ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ is about,” he said.

Karan elaborated about the pain of love. He said that he has never written or directed a film which is related to him or his personal life. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is that one film which is his internal film. “There are some situations and circumstances that are fictional but I feel the pain,” Karan said. He added that the pain of love doesn’t go away by taking a medicine. One can feel it strongly till the end.

Karan is very excited about the Diwali release of his much-awaited film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The movie is going to hit the theaters on October 28.
