Kerala Police arrested five persons for molesting seven minor girls who were inmates of an orphanage at Muttil in Wayanad. Wayanad Police detained a Priest from the orphanage accused of paying seven girls all aged between 14-16 years. The orphanage Priest along with two Nun’s and two other members of the orphanage arrested. The incident came to light after the security guard of the orphanage saw one of the girls coming out in tears from the shop nearby the orphanage. The security guard informed the Police who after enquiring from the girls found out that six other minor girls raped in Kerala orphanage from past four months.
The girls who live in an orphanage were lured with sweets and other objects and called to the nearby shop by the owner who is also the member of the orphanage. The girls were forced to watch pornographic contents after which they molested sexually. The process of exploitation is going on the past four months as revealed by the girls. The Priest arrested after a minor girl aged 16-years gave birth to a baby boy on 7 February. The girls were taken for medical examination which confirmed the sexual exploitation of the girls. “Eleven cases filed and more arrests will be made in coming days,” Wayanad superintendent of police Rajpal Meena said.
“It is yet another blot on the state. All child abuse cases should be fast-tracked and guilty will be given deterrent punishment,” said Mahila Congress leader Bindu Krishna. Former MP TN Seema asked the government to constitute a special investigation team to probe the latest incident. “The shocking incident is part of a big racket. The girls’ photos and videos were taken to blackmail them. A thorough probe is needed to bring all guilty to justice,” Kannur MP Sreemathi told reporters after visiting the orphanage on Tuesday.
