The English and Foreign Language University professor, John Varghese has been appointed as the St. Stephen new principal by the Supreme counseling of the college. John Varghese will take charge of 13th Principal of St. Stephen’s College on March 01, 2016. John Varghese will replace Valson Thambu as the principal as his term is going to end on February 29, 2016.
Supreme Counselling of College made the selection of John Varghese. The interview of three candidates conducts on Wednesday for the post in which in which various member of Church of North India (CNI) and principal of Stephen College were present.
John Varghese has a brilliant education record and skills with a potential of running a management.

The announcement of the appointment of John Varghese as new principal was made by Valson Thambu, through a Facebook post. Moreover, he congratulates John Varghese on his appointment as new St. Stephen new Principal.
In 2008, Valson Thambu took charge of St. Stephen’s college head. He graduates from the same college. Valson Thambu is also known as the man of controversy as there have been various allegations on him of using the fake degree for the appointment, saving the accused in the case of sexual harassment with a research scholar, banning e-magazine and illegal amendment in the constitution of college.
He also faced demand of his removal from the post of St. Stephens College Principal, despite that he refused to resign and challenged to prove the allegations against him in the court.

In 2013, several students protested against Joh Varghese demanding suspension of a proctor of the university. The video shows that a student was making funny comments on John Varghese like “He appointed as Professor in this college, but he is doing a job of gatekeeper” & “John Varghese is ‘Chamcha’ of VC” and asking him to stop the dirty politics in the university. The video also shows that a student is calling him unconstitutional, undemocratic, immoral creature.
